The No. 6 pick in the 2013 NBA draft, Nerlens Noel's career is not yet at the rendezvous. Now Noel has a new beginning. According to a Yahoo Sports Shams Charania report, Noel has accepted a two-year contract with the Thunder Oklahoma City . It comes with a player option for the second year.
The Thunder has already had a successful off season, convincing Paul George to stay with the team. In what was a surprise to many, George rejected the Lakers to sign a four-year contract with the Thunder. Now they have made an interesting choice with the Christmas accord.
He clearly has talent, but there were questions about his work ethic with the Mavericks. In addition, he was suspended for five games at the end of last season for violating the league's anti-drug policy, which contributed to his fall in value this summer.
In the end, it's a good bet for the Thunder and Christmas. OKC gets a great talented and defensive man to add to the depth of their frontcourt for not a lot of money. Meanwhile, Noel has to go to a playoff team with a chance to rehabilitate his image and value. If he plays well, he can retire next summer and potentially get a bigger deal somewhere.
