WARM SPRINGS, Oregon – Fire crews battled a 700-800 acre wildfire near Warm Springs on Monday, causing evacuations in the city. Level 3 (go now) evacuation notice for the Greeley Heights neighborhood along Mt. Jefferson Street at Water Tower Road. Level 2 (in place) is in effect for the rest of the subdivision.
Very early on, the authorities closed Highway 26 near KP 105 as teams battled fire near the Deschutes River. The road was reopened late Monday, but drivers should expect delays.
The Indian Head Casino and the Warm Springs Museum were evacuated as a precaution, Central Oregon Fire Info reported.
We expect the casino to reopen on Tuesday morning.
The fire burns on the west bank of the Deschutes, and the crews wait on the other side if the fire drives the river. However, the sheriff's office said Monday night that the fire was going to blow up the river was reduced when the wind began to blow away from the river.
