For decades, students across the country have offered the classic excuse, "The dog ate my homework." But now, a postman in Smithfield, Virginia, says, "The dogs ate my lunch." And the story that went on amused thousands of people on social media.
June, Carol Jordan, owner of a five-acre farm in Isle of Wight, Virginia, stopped at her mailbox and discovered a handwritten note there.
"Our immediate thought was: "What are boys doing now?" She told CBS News.
"The Boys" in question are Bear and Bull, a 6 year old Labrador / black mastiff, who she and her husband rescued from a high-kill shelter in North Carolina as puppies. Bear and Bull are brothers of the same litter, though Jordan notes that Bull – the smallest with the white spot on his chest – is the leader when it comes to getting in trouble.
In this case, however, it turns out that the boys were not in trouble. On the contrary, the neighborhood's friendly factor left the family a note of concern for the well-being of the dogs.

The only evidence of the crime? Two small carrots in the grass next to the alley where the dogs had spit vegetables among their booty.
Although the postman did not seem to have a grudge, the dogs undeniably misbehaved, so their owners decided to "shame on Facebook." Jordan took a photo of the culprit pair and created a composite photo with the image of the carrier's note.The post-suit with a caption that read: "Wall of shame #weoweyoulunch" – quickly became viral.

To compensate for the mischief of puppies, Jordan then bought a $ 20 Subway gift card and left it at the post office for their carrier, along with a handwritten note from the boys' excuses.

And with the speed of a dog running away with someone else 's lunch, the post took off again. Now, Bear and Bull have a dedicated Facebook page to document their past and future mishaps.
