A parolee who has cut off his ankle monitor is now being searched as part of a series of murders in the Houston area, police said.

Jose Gilberto Rodriguez, 46, is suspected of being killed at least three times last week, police having labeled him a "possible serial killer" at a conference of Monday evening press.

Rodriguez may be responsible for at least five attacks in the region, three of which resulted in shootings, police said.

The first attack, on July 9, was a home invasion theft where the victim survived.

A few days later, 62-year-old Pamela Johnson was found dead at home in northwestern Harris County, police said in a press release. Her car, a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser, was stolen from her home and found abandoned the next day at the nearby Willowbrook Mall.

When investigators examined the video surveillance of the mall, they observed the suspect, later identified as Rodriguez, park the car and leave the premises.

On Saturday, a second murder took place at a mattress store in Houston, police said. The third murder took place on Sunday in another mattress store in the area.

On Monday morning, a transit driver was stolen and shot, but he should survive, police said.

Rodriguez should be considered armed and dangerous, said police, who warned the public not to approach him.

"The sooner we can detain him, the sooner we can breathe better," Houston police chief Art Acevedo said at the press conference.

Rodriguez is about 5 feet 7 inches, 135 pounds with a slim build, black hair and tattoos on both forearms. It was last seen in a dark gray 2017 Nissan Sentra with the K-P-D-2-8-0-5 Texan license plate.

Rodriguez was last spotted in the Houston area, and may be going to neighborhoods and knocking on doors, claiming he's looking for someone, the police said.

Anyone with information should call the Harris County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100. [ad_2]
