DETROIT (WJBK) – A Popeye worker exposed disgusting conditions to a location east of Detroit and put it online.
A cell phone video of cockroaches, maggots and unhygienic conditions prompted the Detroit Department of Health to visit the Gratiot and Seven Mile store .
The video was recorded by an employee who claims to have brought these conditions to the attention of management but felt ignored so she posted it online and it became viral.
FOX 2 saw an exterminator and several employees of Popeyes inside the restaurant. The Detroit police were also on the scene to keep the spectators moving.
A cleaning crew remained on site most throughout the afternoon, while Popeyes published this statement:
"Food safety and quality are still a priority for the Popeyes brand. local health officials to ensure that the restaurant is completely disinfected and safe, the restaurant is fully operational after passing all sanitary inspections. "
Despite the property declaration, cones were placed in the Parking and doors were closed at least for the night.
"You have to close the store, get the news here and just clean it up," said Janel McCloud. "This is not correct."
McCloud works at another Popeyes in Detroit but eats there from time to time. Last week, she saw closely what was recorded in video.
"What I saw was roaches," McCloud said. "When I went to the bathroom to wash my hands before eating and doing like that, I saw cockroaches and saw them when I ordered them."
And she says it's not the first time. have been spotted on the inside.
"It's been like this for a while," said McCloud. "Because my little sister worked here and she said they had roaches and stuff like that."
