To say Tuesday night's Dodgers-Phillies game was a marathon would almost be an understatement.
For starters, the game in Philadelphia did not start early Wednesday morning on the East Coast. In fact, it was the final game still going on from Tuesday's slate in Anaheim and Seattle both ended a little before 1:10 a.m.
The contest is stretched into the 16th inning, only ending when Trevor Plouffe blasted a three-run, walk-off homer off Kiké Hernandez – who it should be noted is not a pitcher at all, but rather the Dodgers' (super) utility player – to give the Phillies a 7-4 win
The game saw a combined 18 pitchers take the mound as bullpen and benches were exhausted as scoring
Both teams had exactly 11 hits and 17 strikeouts.
Vince Velasquez, normally a starter for the Phillies, got the win as he threw his first inning since 2015 in the top of the 16th.
Plouffe's blast ended the game at 1:14 am ET, after 5 hours , 55 minutes. It was the longest of MLB's incredible five extra-inning games Tuesday night, which ESPN's SportsCenter cited as the most games the league has had reach in 2014.
