Netflix's adaptation of Richard K. Morgan's cyberpunk novel Altered Carbon obtains an eight episode, second season. But when he returns, he will have a new actor playing Takeshi Kovacs – Joel Kinnaman will be replaced by Anthony Mackie, currently best known for playing Falcon in Captain America and Avengers Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies.
Altered Carbon is set for centuries in the future, in a world where humanity has overcome mortality through a technology that allows human consciousness to be transferred from one body (or "sleeve" in jargon) to another. the customer can afford it. The first season of the show is a sinister neo-black thriller that follows a former soldier named Takeshi Kovacs while he is engaged to solve the murder of a prominent billionaire of the Earth, Laurens Bancroft, who is a former is apparently suicidal. The season, a bloody and violent affair, completely enveloped the events of Morgan's 2002 novel.
In the novel, Kovacs (played by Will Yun Lee in his original body) inhabits the body of a disgraced police officer (played by Joel Kinnaman), and leaves the Earth and this body to the end of the story once his mission is over. Due to Kovacs' identity change, there was some confusion as to whether the show would come back for a second season, and if that was the case, if Kinnaman would come back – he did not. has not excluded. Season 1 creator Laeta Kalogridis will return as a showrunner and will be joined by Alison Schapker (19459003) Lost, Fringe, Almost Human ) as co-showrunner and executive producer.
Netflix did not indicate which path will take the season 2, but the redesign suggests that the show could address the next book of the trilogy, Broken Angels, to a certain extent. This novel takes place three decades later, with Kovacs as a member of a group of mercenaries fighting in a corporate war on a planet called Sanction IV. He is recruited to secure a buried alien artifact, a plot point teased in the first season.
If that is the case, viewers should expect big changes for the show. Where Altered Carbon was a neo-black cyberpunk story centered on the consequences of the inequality of wealth, Broken Angels is a very different book that is heading towards science military fiction and space opera. The third novel, Woken Furies plunges into Kovac's past.
