MORE TRADES
The Phillies began with a half-game lead over the Atlanta Braves in the NL East, and a 5 ½-game advantage over the Washington Nationals. They already have a capable No. 1 catching option in Jorge Alfaro, a gifted defender who's batting .254 with a .305 on-base percentage.
In Ramos, who made his second All-Star team this year, they add a more potent offensive force also preventing the Nationals from acquiring him to shore up their lackluster catching body. Ramos, who turns 31 on Aug. 10 and is eligible for free after the season, is batting .297 with 14 homers and an .834 OPS. His OPS-plus of 132 is much better than Alfaro's 88.
