The American woman who was held in captivity with her husband by a militant group linked to the Taliban claims that her husband physically and emotionally assaulted her during their captivity.
In new unsealed documents this week, Caitlan Coleman, 32, alleges that her husband, Joshua Boyle, has regularly threatened to kill her by putting her in the fire for five years as a network hostage Haqqani.
The Ottawa Citizen reported that Coleman is seeking sole custody of their three children, all born in captivity.
Coleman says that throughout her life as a hostage, her husband has become increasingly erratic and irrational, "portraying me as an enemy of his life".

"[He] had an uncontrolled rage, instituted corporal punishment against me and raged me, "she said.
Coleman also accused her husband of having extremist ideologies including "complete submission of women". As proof, she cited her previous marriage with Zaynab Khadr, the eldest daughter of Ahmed Said Khadr, a member of Osama bin Laden's inner circle.
In his 23-page affidavit, Boyle, originally from Canada, denied allegations of abuse against him and accused him of neglecting his children because of mental health problems.
The couple, who met online and got married in July 2011, was taken hostage in October 2012 after an overseas trip to Afghanistan.
They were rescued in October 2017 by the Pakistani security forces.

In January 2018, Boyle was charged with numerous crimes, including sexual assault and was released on bail.
In July, an Ontario judge granted Coleman sole custody of their children and issued an order prohibiting Boyle from contacting or approaching his wife and children.
Coleman currently lives in Pennsylvania with the children. She is due to give birth to the couple's fourth child this month, the Ottawa Citizen reported.
