In the next year Captain MarvelBrie Larson's neophyte superhero will make his debut as a member of his own squad, but they are not the Avengers or even Guardians of the Galaxy. In the 1990s the film universe of Marvel, the command was maintained by Starforce – but there could be something rotten at the base, if the mythology of comics is for something.
As revealed by Weekly entertainmentCarol Danvers, from Larson, will already be part of Starforce when she appears on the screen; It is an elite military unit of the Kree Empire, the extraterrestrial race responsible for Carol's powers. In terms of profile, this is a radical change for Starforce, which debuted in 1992. The Avengers # 346 and has made a handful of appearances since, most of which were in the same period (and in the same scenario).
The Starforce comic is, as in the movies, an arm of the Kree army. It is composed of a group of scattered Kree soldiers – with names such as "Shatterax" and "Dr. Minerva "(slightly renamed Minn-Erva for the film) – who devotes himself dangerously to the whims of the Kree leader, the so-called Supreme Intelligence. They are joined almost immediately by Ronan, the accuser, who has already appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Guardians of the Galaxy, played by Lee Pace; he, in a revealing way, returns to the role of Captain Marvel.
(It should be noted that Carol Danvers has never been a member of Starforce in the comics, although Dr. Minerva wears a variation of the first costume that she wore in her original incarnation of superheroes, Ms. Marvel.)
Without knowing it, the various members of Starforce, who may be a little too blindly devoted to their cause, are manipulated by forces beyond their control in the context of a conflict between the Kree Empire. and another imperial race called Shi'Ar.
Despite their good intentions, their actions put them in conflict with the Avengers, as part of a series of events that end with a genetic bomb that kills millions of Kree. As a result, the Kree are conquered by the Shi'Ar and Starforce is integrated into the military division of Shi'Ar, the Imperial Guard. (Indeed, in a later appearance, the band is even called "The Shi'Ar Starforce.")
This does not mean things will end up just as bad for the group's MCU version. If nothing else, the Kree empire is still in the contemporary film, as seen in both Guardians of the Galaxy movies (and, to a lesser extent, ABC episodes) Marvel Agents of SHIELD), so an accidental genocide does not seem to be on the cards for Captain Marvel.
However, there is also evidence that Starforce might not survive the film – or, perhaps, not succeed the entire movie in one piece. Korath the Pursuer is one of the Starforce members in both the film and the film. Guardians of the Galaxy begins about 20 years after Captain Marvel in terms of timeline MCU – no longer is a member of the Kree army, but a mercenary allied with Ronan the accuser, who himself dropped the service of the Kree.
By introducing Starforce into the MCU, Captain Marvel also tells the story of the collapse of the band, putting up pieces of the greatest mythology that fans already know? Time will tell – six months, in fact, until Captain Marvel will be released on March 8, 2019.
