WASHINGTON (Reuters) – US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he remained open to the possibility of talks between Washington and Tehran, but said Iran was in turmoil and struggling to survive.

"Iran is in turmoil right now. They are in total turmoil, "Trump told reporters before meeting with the emir of Kuwait, without providing any evidence.
"Now they are just worrying about their own survival as a country," he said. "We will see what happens with Iran. Whether they want to talk or not, it's up to them, not me. I will always be available but it does not matter one way or the other.
In May, Trump withdrew the United States from a 2015 international agreement aimed at blocking Tehran's nuclear capabilities.
Trump said in July that he would be ready to meet with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani without any preconditions to discuss how to improve relations, which Rouhani rejected.
When asked if he would be willing to meet Rouhani at the United States General Assembly, Mr Trump, who will chair a meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the subject. Iran this month, said: "It is possible. Everything is possible. Everything is possible. We will see."
