Emirates' EK203 is in quarantine at New York's JFK International Airport after several passengers fell ill on board, ABC News reported.
Even though early reports indicated that up to 100 passengers had been sick during the flight, Emirates confirmed that the actual number was "about 10".
"Emirates can confirm that about 10 passengers on the EK203 flight from Dubai to New York have been sick," a spokesman for the Dubai-based airline said in a statement. "Upon arrival at JFK, as a precaution, they were immediately checked by the local health authorities and those in need of medical care will be taken care of." "All the other passengers will be coming in. The safety and care of our customers is always our first priority and will not be compromised," added the spokesman for Emirates.
We do not know what caused the illness of the passengers.
The Airbus A380 Superjumbo landed in New York on Wednesday at 9:18 am after a 14-hour trip from Dubai to the United Arab Emirates. Images posted on social networks by passengers show the plane on an isolated stand surrounded by an armada of ambulances and emergency response vehicles. According to Reuters, there are about 500 passengers on board.
Port Authority officials from New York and New Jersey, as well as disease control and prevention centers are on site.
According to passenger Larry CohenThose on board the flight had to complete a CDC health form and their temperatures had to be taken before they could disembark.
The port authority, which is the operator of the airport, was not immediately available for comment.
