"The Bobby Brown Story," a two-night biopic chronicling the life and career of the controversial R & B singer, debuted Tuesday with an episode that detailed everything from Brown's often tragic childhood to his fight against addiction .
One of the first scenes recalled the fatal stab of his best friend of childhood. Another presented an emotional fight between him and his future wife, Whitney Houston, who discovered that Brown had cheated on her just before their 1992 wedding. But the biggest bombshell of all would have been the assertion of the Biography film that Brown had an affair with Janet Jackson.
As the "The Bobby Brown Story" tells, Jackson was already in a relationship with Rene Elizondo Jr. – the dancer turned director of music video that she had secretly married in 1991 – when she began to see the singer of " My Prerogative ".
In a scene that put Twitter in flames, Brown (Woody McClain) and Jackson (Cree Davis) shared scorching scenes in a hotel room. Later, while he was lying in bed, Brown asked the singer to define their relationship. "I mean, we obviously have feelings for each other," Brown told him. "Are you really about to marry him and keep me out?"
"It's not that simple," Jackson explained. "There are other things to consider, it's not mine."
Brown asked if her famous family was influencing her decision, and suggested that she did not want to be with a black man – a claim that Jackson refuted. "Or at least not a dark-skinned brother," Brown said. "But if I was a DeBarge, that would be cool, right?"
"You're funny," Jackson told Brown, who became furious. "I'm worth $ 25 million and that's what, a sacred dancer backup?" Brown said, pushing Jackson to get up and leave.
The eagle-eyed viewers pointed out that Brown had already discussed his relationship with Jackson – and this infamous fight in a hotel room – in his 2016 memoir "Every Little Step." And in Brown's reply, he threw Jackson out of the room while she was still naked – a detail that Page Six had previously reported would be in the biopic. As noted by some viewers, this has not been included in the broadcast scene.
Brown also talked about his relationship with Jackson during an appearance last year at Steve Harvey's day talk show.
"It was a great heartache for me," said Brown to Harvey. "I had a real crush on her – I mean, I was absolutely crazy about her."
The first part of the biopic – and the second film on Brown's career, following BET's recent study of New Edition Story – also looked at Brown's relationship with Houston and the tension caused by the close friendship of Houston with Robyn Crawford. who would have been his lover.
Jackson, meanwhile, did not comment on her alleged relationship with Brown, but some saw an opportunity to clear up when she tweeted Wednesday morning that she would answer fans' questions next Friday on the subject. Radio show Harvey's iHeart.
"You already know what will be the most asked question," tweeted a fan. "Make things clear, Janet!"
