Bobby, Bobby, Bobby! That's why we are here, right? The story of Bobby Brown: Part 1 started last night centered and felt like a continuation of The history of the new edition, just centered on Bobby. Striker to his fame as a solo artist, drug, tragedy and his relationships with several women, including Whitney Houston, the story takes place just after the departure of Brown (Woody McClain) of New Edition. Although most of Bobby's bad boys are well known in the media, this story allows Bobby to tell himself everything he thinks to share. One thing is certain, it's definitely Bobby's story. For me, the first part felt like you had to leave knowing that even if the tragedy had surrounded him, Bobby continued to excel to be the best.
Family
Bobby's undeniable talent and focus for the spotlight were not only rooted in his love for music and celebrity, but also in his perverse mentality that apparently pushed him to avoid the financial hardship his family and endured him during his youth. Surrounded by drugs and violence in the neighborhoods, this story gave a glimpse of Bobby's family and how she tried to overcome these obstacles. While supporting her dreams, her parents, Carole (Sandi McCree) and Herbert (T.K. Carter) put all they had in his career so he could would have do it. His mother arranged for him a meeting with the record executive, Jheryl Busby (Durrell "Tank" Babbs), to offer him a contract after catching Bobby with a gun and realized that He was jostling the streets. Bobby chose his older brother Tommy (Mekhi Phifer) to be his manager, claiming he was the smartest person he knew and someone he could trust. With a loyal fan base and a disturbing ear for production, Bobby's singing and exhilarating live performances have turned him into a superstar. Of course, Bobby's fame began to increase, as did women, drugs, loss of concentration, financial problems, ups and downs, and family fallout.

Speaking of women in Bobby's life, the film showed reckless sexual behavior for the star, but mostly focused on her friendships and relationships with 5 women in particular: Melika Payne (Brittney Level), Kim Ward (Asia & # Epperson), Janet Jackson (Davis Cris), Whitney Houston (Gabrielle Dennis) and Alicia Etheridge (Alyssa Goss). Paternity is also discussed; The show shows that it was one of Bobby's priorities, but it's certainly not his priority. So what was his top priority? Women.
Bobby had kids with Melika and Kim before they even met and started dating Whitney. Melika was in L.A., and Bobby cared about her, but she eventually moved with Carl Anthony Payne II to Martin celebrity. Bobby seemed to go back and forth with Kim, his friend in high school. She knew he saw other women on the road, but it was only when he started dating Whitney that things really turned out. While Whitney is considered the greatest love of his life (at least at the time), their love also had elements of co-dependency and other very public highs and lows. Bobby cheats Whitney, makes sure Kim is pregnant for the second time and before talking to him about the case, he proposes. Whitney gets pregnant at the same time and the miscarriages are probably due to the stress of finding the case and pregnancy. They get married anyway, both caught in a whirlwind of love and drugs, leaving their careers lost. Whitney finally has Bobbi Kristina, but they still struggle to maintain sobriety, their lifestyle and their parental duties.
After seeing the Whitney documentary this summer, it's interesting to see the differences in the accounts. Whitney (and his brothers, by the way) have always said that Whitney was a much heavier drug user than Brown and even introduced him to new things. I felt it was the beginning of their relationship, but according to this portrait, Bobby discovered Whitney's cocaine habit on their wedding day. While discovering such a big secret the day of your wedding could put a break in the marriage and the wedding of someone else, they still managed. Whitney's relationship with Robyn Crawford (Yvonne Senat Jones) was another sore point for the couple. Although he does not say if she and Robyn were more than friends, they allude to it more subtly than the Whitney doc, which essentially confirms it. Anyway, Robyn is a source of contention between the couple, but they continue to grow in love and in life. Finally, his friendship with Alicia, who is often with Teddy Riley (Moses Jones) and his team, plays an important role in his story. She pushes Bobby to marry Whitney and eventually their friendship changes, Etheridge becoming his wife in 2012.
The music
Bobby wanted to change the way R & B was done and he managed to do it by working with the best producers to make sure his sound would be legendary. Teddy Riley, L.A. Reid and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds were some of the greatest producers who worked alongside Bobby to create sounds, songs and insatiable lyrics. Mesh with Bobby's wild stage presence and fashion / dance moves, and success continued to rise … until he did not. I have never forgotten how good Bobby was and is. He was virtually in his own way, but never seemed to be able to escape the demons that followed him, in all their forms.
What will come
While the first part has had some shock effects (at least Janet Jackson's part for me), I'm sure the second part will have even bigger revelations. We still have Bobby's wedding, Bobbi Kristina's life and hardships, jail time, sobriety, New Edition meetings, health, redemption and more. While the pace of this biopic was much slower than The history of the new edition For me, I will reserve my opinions until I see the second part, which will be broadcast on Wednesday, September 5 at 21h EST / 20h CST on BET!
