LOS ANGELES – And the Academy of the Best Actor by a baseball player returns to … Todd Frazier.
The Mets' third base player said on Wednesday that he jumped into the stands at Dodger Stadium for Alex Verdugo's popup and referee Mark Wegner convinced he had made the catch.
Frazier was actually holding a rubber ball in his glove that he had found near him.
"It's Hollywood, so sometimes you have to play a little bit," Frazier said before the Mets played their series final against the Dodgers.
"Basically, I caught the ball in the stands and down, the ball went out. But the story improves: Frazier said that he thought the ball in his glove was the real one. Only when he reached the glove did he realize he had a rubber bullet.
"At the end of the day, I had another decision to make, whether to give Jacob [deGrom] the ball or throw in the stands and that was the only thing I could think of, "said Frazier, who threw the ball to the crowd.
"I saw someone pointing at the right ball and I said," I'm just going to have to play this. " "I was stunned, I left with that."
Frazier was no surprise for the act.
"It was one of those things where I think any third-baseman or any player trying to win would do it," Frazier said. "If there is a ball in front of you, play. You do it with your father or your mother or your friend in the street.
If Frazier could change anything, he might have thrown the ball for De-Grom or at least the Mets canoe to get the reactions of his teammates.
