- Supreme Court candidate Brett Kavanaugh had to spend a second day at Capitol Hill. Democratic senators have questioned him on topics ranging from the Mueller investigation to his alleged links with the president's inner circle.
- The Justice Department announced that it was going to investigate whether social media giants were intentionally censoring conservatives while Facebook and Twitter leaders defended their practices during hearings at Capitol Hill on Wednesday.
- Kim Jong Un reaffirmed his commitment to denuclearization and expressed his belief that President Trump could settle the blocked nuclear talks between North Korea and the United States, state media reported.
- Hurricane Florence has been turned into a Category 4 storm and could cause life-threatening conditions in Bermuda by the end of the week, warns forecasters.
The New York Times on Wednesday published an explosive opinion piece written by a top unnamed White House official who described a "two-way presidency" in which "working diligently from the inside to frustrate parts of [President Trump’s] agenda and its worst inclinations "… The play promptly angered the White House, as President Trump called "without water", and press officer Sarah Sanders asked the anonymous author to "resign".
