PHILADELPHIA – Former Cleveland Browns linebacker Mychal Kendricks pleaded guilty on Thursday to insider hit charges and risked up to 25 years in prison.
US District Judge Gene E.K. Pratter asked Kendricks why he pleaded guilty.
"I'm making the decision because it's the right thing to do," said the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I know that I made the decision to accept information, secret information, and it was not the right thing to do."
The conviction is scheduled for December 18.
Kendricks, who signed a one-year contract with the Browns in June after winning a Super Bowl title last season with the Eagles, used tips from an acquaintance to make about 1.2 million dollars of illegal profits on four major trade agreements.
The Browns released him from the team on Aug. 29 after the charges were laid.
Prosecutors allege that his co-defendant, Damilare Sonoiki, received $ 10,000 in bribes between 2014 and 2015, as well as tickets for Eagles games and the opportunity to follow a video clip or nightclub concerts. .
Sonoiki worked as a junior analyst at Goldman Sachs but left the financial sector and recently wrote for television shows.
Sonoiki's lawyer told Inquirer in an email that his client would also plead guilty, but no date has been set.
