This escalated quickly: an idea for a film about a cheated Trump president, launched on Twitter by Veep creator Armando Iannucci, could actually end up on the big screen.
At 6:17 am Wednesday – a few hours before the New York Times does publish a report by an anonymous Trump administration official who depicts the president as dangerously amoral and surrounded by aides working to keep his worst tendencies – Iannucci tweeted what seemed like a jokey idea for a movie. "Movie pitch .. Trump drugged and moved to a Whitehouse replica, where he still thinks he's heading," he wrote. "Millions of dollars have been spent on hiring actors to play his staff, senators, news presenters, people at rallies."
Iannucci concluded with an insolent missive to the highest ranking of Hollywood: "That's it. Studios, your best offer please. "
The Veep star, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, quickly responded (again Probably joke), tweeting that she was "in"
But in the early morning of Thursday morning, Iannucci said his wild idea had attracted some La La Land's appetizers, perhaps in part because of the infamous show released the day before. And he might already have a working title: one of his supporters suggested that the movie "Dave" should be titled "Fake America Great Again".
"Er … looks like Hollywood," he wrote. "Now, what are we doing?"
Shortly after, the director of "Death of Stalin" continued his creative brainstorming, calling his supporters to undertake an original project. "Proposal: If you take pictures of Trump at a meeting in the White House and you replace Trump with a penguin, the expressions on the faces of everyone else in the room will still work," he said. he writes. "Twitter, let's see what you can do."
