NEW YORK – The Latest on the US Open Tennis Tournament (local time):
11 o'clock in the evening.
CoCo Vandeweghe and Ashleigh Barty, seeded second, defeated top-seeded Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova 6-4, 7-6 (6) to advance to the women's doubles final of the United States.
Krejcikova and Siniakova won the Wimbledon doubles title in July.
In the Flushing Meadows final, Vandweghe and Barty will face seeded No. 2 Kristina Mladenovic and Timea Babos, who eliminated Samantha Stosur and Zhang Shuai 6-4, 7-6 (4) in the semi-finals.

Naomi Osaka of Japan made her first career Grand Slam final, beating Madison Keys, 6-2, 6-4, who finished first in the US Open.
The No. 20 seed will face six-time US champion Serena Williams for the title on Saturday.
Keys, ranked 14th, was unable to convert on any of his 13 health point opportunities.

Serena Williams will play for her 24th Grand Slam title, having played in the US final with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Anastasija Sevastova.
Williams, seeded 17th, will face Madison Keys (14th) or Naomi Osaka (20th) Saturday.
A year after missing the tournament and giving birth to her daughter, Williams reached the finals at Flushing Meadows for the first time since 2014, when she won the last of her six open titles in the United States.
She would equal Margaret Court's record for most major titles by winning Saturday. She missed a chance earlier this summer when she fell to Angelique Kerber in the Wimbledon final.
Williams dropped the first two games against Sevastova, seeded No. 19, with the roof closed at Arthur Ashe Stadium, and then won five straight games against the semifinalist Grand Slam in Latvia.

Serena Williams is halfway to the American final after winning the first set 6-3 against Anastasija Sevastova.
With the roof closed at Arthur Ashe Stadium after a rain earlier, Williams, seeded No. 17, has won five straight matches after Sevastova, the 19th, won the first two games of the semifinal.
Williams has won the US Open six times, but lost in the semifinals in his last two appearances.

Mike Bryan continues to excel at the US Open, even without his twin brother and longtime partner Bob.

The tandem of Poland and Brazil, ranked seventh, defeated Radu Albot and Malek Jaziri 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-3 to qualify for the final of the US Open.
Kubot and Melo entered the tournament after losing five of their previous seven games. They will be looking for their first Grand Slam title or Masters 1000 of the season.
Albot from Moldova and Jaziri from Tunisia were not supposed to play at Flushing Meadows. They entered the tournament as substitutes when the 2016 finalists, Pablo Carreno Busta and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, withdrew on the day of the opening.
Kubot and Melo will face Americans Mike Bryan and Jack Sock, seeded third, and Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah, fifth seeded.

The retractable roof of the Arthur Ashe Stadium will be closed for the US Women's Open semi-finals, as forecasts predict heavy thunderstorms with strong winds.
The American Tennis Association decided to close the arena about five hours before Serena Williams faced Anastasija Sevastova in the first semifinal of the night. Madison Keys plays Naomi Osaka in the second.

Some congressmen from Virginia and West Virginia announced their intention to commemorate Arthur Ashe on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his US Open title in 1968.
The bicameral resolution honors Ashe's contributions to civil rights, education, the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa, and HIV and AIDS awareness.
Ashe was from Richmond, Virginia. He died in 1993 at 49 years of AIDS-related pneumonia.
The 1968 championship was the first in the open era and the first of three Grand Slam titles for Ashe. He was the first black player to win the US Open and Wimbledon.
The announcement comes as the semifinals of the US Open should begin in the stadium named for Ashe.

Hot, humid weather continues to be a problem in the United States.
The wheelchair and junior games were suspended because of the weather, with temperatures going back to the 90s at Flushing Meadows.
Officials say that they will check the forecasts every half hour to decide when these matches can be played.

Williams is looking to reach the final for the ninth time. She plays a semifinal match against No. 19 seed Latvia's Anastasija Sevastova, who is competing for the first time in the last four Grand Slam tournaments. Sevastova eliminated defending champion Sloane Stephens in the quarterfinals and never faced Williams.
Keys, number 14 and runner-up a year ago, faces No.120 Naomi Osaka of Japan in the other semifinal of the night. Keys has defeated Osaka three times, including this year at the French Open and two years ago at the US Open after a 5-1 deficit in the third set.
Williams won his first victory in the United States in 1999 and won the tournament six times. She is looking for a trophy for the 24th Grand Slam, which would put Margaret Court in the tennis event.
