PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Matt Ryan to Julio Jones has failed again.
Jay Ajayi scored two touchdowns, Nick Foles scored a new pass to launch an offensive and defending champion Philadelphia Eagles needed another defensive position to open the season with an 18-12 win over the Atlanta Falcons Thursday night.
Ryan threw an incomplete pass to Jones in the left corner of the end zone in the last game of the 5 Philadelphia.
Jones could not come down with Ryan's pass from the 2 in the right corner of the end zone to Atlanta's 15-10 loss in the division round in January.
A delay in the weather pushed off the kickoff of 45 minutes, forcing fans to wait for the unveiling of the banner of the "world champions" after the first victory of the Super Bowl. Wearing his golden blazer from the Hall of Fame, former goaltender Brian Dawkins unleashed the crowd with his owner Jeffrey Lurie by his side and led a chorus of "Fly Eagles Fly".
The defense fueled this energy with a solid goal line on the first set, stopping the Falcons three times at 1.

The Philadelphia defense has overcome two errors to temporarily preserve its lead. Tre Sullivan threw a loose ball on a kick and the Falcons recovered the tackle on the Eagles 32. A third-ranked Fletcher Cox bag was canceled by Derek Barnett's offside penalty to stay on course. But Rasul Douglas intercepted Ryan's pass at 4.
Deion Jones then intercepted the Foles pass that escaped the hands of Dallas Goedert and brought it back to 20 yards from the Philadelphia 27's, setting up the 9-yard run by Tevin Coleman's pass. Matt Bryant hit the right post on the extra point.
On a hot and humid night, it looked more like a pre-season game in August than a playoff rematch. Both teams seemed rusty after many starters did not play much in the pre-season. He did not compare to the action in Kansas City's 42-27 win over New England in the first game of the 2017 NFL.
Bryant scored 52 goals and 21 yards in the first quarter.
ANTHEM
Malcolm Jenkins and defensive end Michael Bennett were on the sidelines when the national anthem was played. Eagles: WR Mack Hollins was placed on the injured list a few hours before the match due to an injury to the groin.
