Another EAC member, economist, resigns to protest the controversial decision

The federal government of Pakistan, led by the Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has asked economist Atif Mian to resign from the Economic Advisory Council (EAC) led by the prime minister, said Friday the Minister of Finance. Information Fawad Chaudhry.

PTI defends nominations on EAC
Atif Mian has announced his resignation as a member of the EAC on Twitter. "For the sake of stability of the Pakistani government, I resigned from the Economic Advisory Council, because the government was facing a lot of negative pressure regarding my appointment to the mullahs (Muslim clerics) and their supporters."
Earlier, Senator Faisal Javed Khan had tweeted saying, "Atif Mian was asked to resign from the advisory council and he agreed. A replacement would be announced later. "

Fawad Chaudhry slams Shehla Raza after tweet controversy
Dr. Khawaja is Professor of International Finance and Development at Harvard Kennedy School, co-director of Evidence for Policy Design (EPoD) and co-founder of the Center for Economic Research in Pakistan (CERP). Khawaja was one of the 18 members of the EAC.
The appointment of Mian to the committee caused a heavy defeat because of his confession. Shehla Raza of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and Maulana Fazlur Rehman, head of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam team, were the most important critics.
Earlier Wednesday, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry reiterated the government's determination to guarantee the rights of minorities. "The protection of minorities is an integral part of Islam.
