The annual walk to end Alzheimer's is scheduled for September 22 at the Midland University Wikert Event Center, located at 940 E. Ninth St.
Registration is at 9 am and the walk starts at 9:30 am The Fremont Area Alzheimer's Collaborative is organizing the event.
Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia in the elderly.
It involves parts of the brain that control memory and language.
Although this is not a normal part of aging, the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease increases with age. However, people under 65 can also develop the disease.
Sixty per cent of the funds raised at this event will be donated directly to leading institutions in Alzheimer's disease research.
The remaining 40% will be awarded in the form of grants to support caregiver education and programming in the Fremont area.
