One day after cutting the ribbon on his second (and largest) non-cash convenience store in Seattle, Amazon confirmed he would bring the Go concept to the city that never sleeps.
The information first noted the news across a number of job offers last night. The company has since confirmed its plans in an email addressed to TechCrunch.
"We plan to open Amazon Go in New York," said an Amazon spokesperson at TechCrunch. And that's essentially for the statement. No information on key details such as launch time here, but at least the company has really reduced the time on this one.
The stores are a bit of an experience for the company, which has plunged its toes into the experience of brick and mortar. Announced at the end of the 2016 holiday season, Go remains a novelty for the retail trade. The concept drops cashiers, relying instead on cameras to track buyers and charge their account when they go out.
The New York store will be the first to come out of Amazon outside his hometown of Seattle. Amazon already has a presence in retail, thanks to a pair of bookstores in Manhattan.
