The St. Louis Cardinals are trying to pull off their series of Detroit weekends without their leader on the court.
Receiver Yadier Molina has a slight thigh injury and is likely to miss the last two games of the series. The second game of the three-game series will be played on Saturday night.
Molina was injured during an attempted robbery against Washington on Wednesday.

He will make his first career appearance against Detroit.
Tiger starter Matthew Boyd (9-12, 4.24 ERA), has participated in one seventh of his last five starts. He won a victory on his last Sunday outing, holding the New York Yankees three points in six innings. His teammates provided eight points during that period and the Tigers won an 11-7 victory.
"It was good to have a big lead and be able to attack," Boyd said.
It was just Boyd's third win in 12 road decisions. He was more efficient at Comerica Park, going 6-3 with an average of 2.56 in 12 starts.
Boyd, who has never faced the Cardinals, has won victories in his last three home starts.
The setbacks of St. Louis continued in the first game of the series, a 5-3 Tigers win. Jordan Hicks offered a two-run homer to Jeimer Candelario in the bottom of the ninth game.
