Palestinians set fire to tires and threw molotov cocktails and grenades at nearby Israeli soldiers, the army said.

Since 30 March, regular demonstrations have been held along the border, with Palestinians demanding the right to return to their homes as their families fled or were deported during the war surrounding the creation of Israel in 1948.

At least 175 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli gunfire in Gaza since then.

Israel accuses Islamist leaders in Gaza, Hamas, of manipulating the demonstrations and seeking to use them as cover for attacks.

This week, he closed his only people crossing Gaza after violent demonstrations damaged the infrastructure.

Israel said it would reopen next Thursday, provided the situation is calm.

Gaza has been under Israeli blockade for more than a decade and its Hamas leaders have fought three times with Israel since 2008.

According to the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, about 80% of the two million inhabitants of the enclave depend on aid.
