A major hurricane, Florence, could occur dangerously near the US east coast next week. Although the trajectory of the storm is far from certain, many computer-guided models have projected close contact with the east coast, and some predict a direct hit on the Carolinas.
Although New Jersey is not directly on the reticula in Florence, forecasters can not exclude the possibility of some impacts of the storm, including heavy rain and strong winds.
That's why the National Weather Service and other public agencies say Garden State residents, especially those living along or near the coast, should begin to prepare for the storm.
"It never hurts to get ready," said Trent Davis, a meteorologist at the National Meteorological Service's Regional Forecast Office in New Jersey. "I think it's a good time" with the weekend on us and no threat expected from Florence before the end of next week.
