Pakistan, China agree to strengthen strategic cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met on Saturday with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi and the two leaders agreed to strengthen the strategic cooperation partnership between the two countries.

Wang, who is on a three-day official visit to Pakistan, and Qureshi held a joint press conference at the Foreign Office after holding an individual meeting and talks at the delegation level, reported Geo News.

"Relations with China are an integral part of our foreign policy and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is the first priority of the new government," Qureshi said.

"Pakistan has played a key role in the elimination of terrorism and China has appreciated Pakistan's sacrifices in the war on terror.We are proud of the friendship between Pakistan and China," he said. said Mr. Qureshi.

He said the purpose of the Chinese Foreign Minister's meeting was to strengthen communication with the new government.

For his part, Mr. Wang said, "We want to strengthen relations with Pakistan, we had a positive meeting with Qureshi."

This is the first official visit of a Chinese dignitary since the formation of the new government in Pakistan.

Wang invited Prime Minister Imran Khan to be the guest of honor at the International Import Expo in China. "The Chinese Foreign Minister invited the Prime Minister to visit the country in November," Qureshi said.

In addition to meeting Qureshi, Wang will meet with Khan, incumbent President Mamnoon Hussain, National Assembly President Asad Qaiser and Chief of Staff Qamar Bajwa. He is also likely to meet President-elect Arif Alvi.

Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman Dr Muhammad Faisal said Wang "has emphasized Beijing's strong support for Pakistan's socio-economic progress and development."

The two ministers decided to strengthen strategic cooperation and China was assured of Pakistan's continued commitment to CPEC as a priority project, the report said.

Wang Yi arrived in the capital on Friday.
