KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) – More than 100 jobs will be eliminated when a Coca-Cola facility in Kalamazoo finally closes.

In a letter of notification of adjustment and recycling of workers Thursday (WARN) in the state, Great Lakes Coca-Cola, which bottled and distributed coke products, announced its intention to permanently close its plant located at 216 Peekstok Drive in Kalamazoo.

A spokesman for the company said the move comes after business valuations, they hope, will ensure their success as a competitive industry leader.

"As part of this ongoing assessment, we recently announced the closure of our distribution center in Kalamazoo, Mich. We deeply appreciate the contributions of our members and have worked hard to minimize their impact on employees."

The company said the closure will take place on November 5, 2018. Great Lakes Coca-Cola said that a total of 102 workers could lose their jobs if they are not transferred to existing centers in Grand Rapids or Lansing.

Workers in 18 roles will be affected; about a third of them are full time mechanics, according to the letter.
