Boston Celtics' guard, Jabari Bird, was arrested and "is being monitored by Boston police at a local hospital for assessment after a domestic violence incident," according to a statement from the Boston Police Department.
The victim was taken to a separate hospital to treat her injuries.
Bird will be charged Monday with assault and battery 209A (which covers domestic violence), strangling and kidnapping, the police department said in its statement.
"We are aware of the incident involving Jabari Bird and we take it very seriously. We are actively collecting information and we reserve other comments at this stage, "the Celtics said in a statement.
The incident took place Friday in Brighton, Massachusetts.
Bird was selected with the 56th pick in the 2017 repechage and has played 13 games in the 2017-18 season. He also played 20 games with the Maine Red Claws of the G-League.
