(WASHINGTON) – Secretary of State Mike Pompeo (pahm-PAY'-oh) received the letter that President Donald Trump expected to receive from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un (Kim Jawng Oon).

An official from the State Department confirms that Pompeo has the letter. It is not clear immediately if it was delivered to Trump.

Pompeo returned early Friday from India. Trump was in Montana and the Dakota on Friday before a late return to the White House.

The official was not allowed to comment publicly on the delicate diplomacy between the United States and North Korea and requested anonymity.

Trump said Kim's recent statement that he wanted to denuclearize North Korea during Trump's tenure as president was "a very positive statement."
