Two Massachusetts women are suing a hotel near Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, at the center of a recent legionella outbreak.
Louise Pare, of Gardner, and Celeste Billington, of Templeton, have rented unit 224 of The Sands Resort from August 3, said the pursuit. They spent three days and two nights there and believe they inhaled and ingested Legionella bacteria in the spa.
Earlier this month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed the presence of bacteria in the shower heads or sinks in three bedrooms, in addition to a hot tub, a water heater and of an outside shower hose.
One person died and more than a dozen others were infected during the outbreak.
"The Sands Resort in Hampton Beach has been reviewed by government health services and determined to be causing an outbreak of legionellosis before, during and after the complainant's stay at the hotel." , says the trial.
The lawsuit, filed in the Rockingham Superior Court on Friday, revealed Pare and Billington had both contracted the disease. Both symptoms began on August 5 and were diagnosed later.
Pare was admitted to the hospital on August 10th.
In addition to the hotel and its administrators, the lawsuit also designated Aqua Paradise Pools & Spas as defendant. The plaintiffs claim that the company was responsible for the maintenance of the hotel spa but that it did not do it properly.
