A bush fire of at least 200 acres on Saturday afternoon forced the residents of Napa County to leave the homes located at the northwestern boundary of Lake Berryessa.

Snell's fire burns near Butts Canyon and Snell Valley Roads, about 7 miles southeast of Middletown.

A spokesman for Cal Fire said a mandatory evacuation was done for the entire Snell Valley Road, including a residential area east of the road near the lake. Snell Valley Road seems to be the only escape route for the residential area.

A Nixle alert from the Napa County Sheriff's Office said mandatory evacuation includes Berryessa Estates.

Residents living near the shores of Lake Berryessa have been repeatedly confronted with an explosive fire this year, starting with the county's 90,000-acre fire earlier this summer. A second smaller forest fire, Steele Fire, burned 135 acres but destroyed 8 homes and damaged 4 other structures.
