A man was killed and four others wounded on Sunday morning in a McDonald's shooting near Auburn University, police said.

Police responded to the shooting on West Magnolia Ave. just before 2:30 am and found a 20-year-old man dead from gunshot wounds, the Auburn police wrote in a press release.

Four other people, including a student from Auburn University, were also injured by the shots. A 16-year-old was transported with serious injuries.

Three other people – 17, 19 and 21 years old – were transported to the hospital with injuries that did not threaten their lives.

Authorities said they thought the incident was not random.

"Beforehand, information was obtained that an altercation took place just before an exchange of shots resulting in injuries," the police said.

Auburn University's emergency notification system wrote on its Twitter page that there was no indication of an active threat to the campus community. Officials invited to report any suspicious activity.

The university first said that the suspect was still on the run. The police, in an updated press release, did not provide any information about the suspect.
