$ 1 billion from Governor Eric Holcomb The Next Level Connections plan will provide broadband Internet service throughout Indiana and will lead to significant infrastructure projects across the state. The governor's vision for outdoor activities in Indiana, included in his plan, will also yield incredible dividends for many generations.

Holcomb has pledged $ 90 million to create more hiking, biking and horseback riding trails to connect 3,600 miles of trails across the state. The goal: each Hoosier will live within five miles of a trail by 2020.

Imagine what this transformation program could do for Indiana. The most obvious benefit is the improved health of Hoosiers. More trails equates to more opportunities to go out and do some exercise. More exercise means better health – physical and mental – enough reason to spend money on extra trails.

But it is also an opportunity to reach the future. The development of Indiana's natural assets will allow millennia to have better access to their environment and to experience first hand the rich natural and cultural diversity of Indiana.

Imagine also that the state uses state money to unlock more capital to build trails and preserve nature. The Indiana community, which understands the importance this can have for Indiana's health, economy and community involvement, now has a direct opportunity to participate. The same thing for the generous philanthropic entities of the state.

With this new grant program, we can involve millions of other Hoosiers in the varied and beautiful natural areas of our state. The remarkable geographical diversity of Indiana is too often a revelation for Hoosiers.

The legacy of over a hundred years of our state parks is only the first point of reference. In addition, the Department of Natural Resources and land trusts such as The Nature Conservancy have preserved many scenic and inspiring natural areas to explore and enjoy.

Working with our partners, the cannery has been working for 60 years in Indiana to protect the irreplaceable forests, grasslands and wetlands of the state. Our mission is to protect the lands and waters for nature and people. Creating trails to connect these areas is an incredible opportunity for the people of Indiana.

The Nature Conservancy is proud to work with the Governor and many others to help design a comprehensive program that connects people and communities to nature. Next Level Connections Holcomb is a unique and visionary plan to improve the quality of life in Indiana. It's also a great way to help Hoosiers benefit from conservation while protecting our natural heritage.
