A Spider-Man fan who asked for a marriage proposal in the new Spider Man video game had his wish, but things did not really work for him.
In May 2018, Tyler Schultz sent a tweet to Insomniac Games, the studio behind The Spider-Man of Marvel, with a request. He wanted to propose to his girlfriend in the video game.
After a brief back and forth, the Insomniac Games Twitter account did it. As account tweeted"Well then, who should we say no to love?" And, indeed, it seems that Spider-Man would be the exact superhero to help with these kinds of things.
The game released last week and the Easter egg of "Madison, do you want to marry me?" Is in play on a theater marquee. However, there is a problem: Schultz claims that his girlfriend broke up with him a few weeks before the game's release.
In a video posted on YouTube yesterday, Schultz, deprived of sleep, claims that he and Madison, to whom the proposal was addressed, separated several weeks ago. To use her exact words, she dropped him "to go with [his] brother. It's a very dramatic story, full of ups and downs of young love.
In a direct message on Facebook, Schultz said Kotaku that the idea of asking Insomniac the message in the game stems from an idea of his ex-girlfriend: make a proposal at a big convention. "I sat with it and wanted to ride it, be able to see tons of people see it. The idea then came to me to imbricate it[[[[sic]in a video game, one of the biggest video games. "
To hear Schultz, the Insomniac people could not have been nicer with the whole process. "I presented the idea of what I wanted and we shared some themes from there. It was really cool and the guy was really nice.
The story does not stop there, however. Jacinda Chew, whose title is Artistic Director at Insomniac, tweeted a offer to change the sign in a patch because things did not work for the relationship at the end. Schultz first tweeted that he did not want to change the sign, but then followed that he had an idea of what the change might be.
Schultz says Kotaku that he wants to replace the marriage proposal by the name of his grandmother, who died of cancer and helped ignite Schultz's passion for Spider-Man. She gave him his first Spider-Man comic book as well as a copy of Fantasy fantasy # 15, the first appearance of the character.
It is natural that romantic relationships begin and end. Not even Spider Man can alter the pathways of the human heart, and I hope that Schultz and his old girlfriend will lead a happy life playing various video games of superheroes.
Schultz seems to have a slight sense of humor about all of this, since he says that "it could go down in history as the saddest Easter egg" by making a face:
