21-year-old man who fell off a cruise ship in Boston Harbor and died identified as Aaron Dibella of Peabody

The 21-year-old man who fell off a cruise ship near Peddocks Island on Saturday night was identified as Aaron Dibella of Peabody.

Dibella died after falling off the ship.

The company operating the cruise ship stated that it was involved in horse racing before falling off the ship.

The Plymouth County Attorney's Office announced that around 8:40 pm, the Providence II cruise ship had broadcast a man overboard at Hull.

Authorities said that a security guard on the ship had jumped into the water to help Dibella but that he was unable to locate him. The security officer could get out of the water.

The Coast Guard, the Massachusetts State Police and the Massachusetts Environmental Police reacted to the situation.

A pollster by the environmental police located the victim around 11pm. The state police divers entered the water around 12:45 pm Sunday and located the victim in the Fore River Channel at Weymouth.

Dibella was taken to the Coast Guard post at Point Allerton in Hull.

The district attorney's office continues to investigate death. The Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

A cousin told WCVB that Dibella was in the army.

Bay State Cruises, the company that operates the ship, said Dibella had fallen into the water after "playing the horse aboard the ship".

"The tragic and overwhelming sadness that has passed through all of us, our team, our staff – all associated with our society – has left us without sufficient words to express how sorry we are for the family and friends of the gentleman," he said.
