In collaboration with Economic Development Corp. from Shasta County and other business leaders, a $ 1 million non-contractual travel bank was created to help Redding participate in the service.

EDC President, Tony Giovaniello, said in the statement that the success of the new United Express service to Los Angeles is the culmination of more than five years of cooperative efforts between the sector private sector, non-profit associations and local government.

Currently, SkyWest, operating as United Express, offers four daily flights from Redding to San Francisco on regional jets.

Redding suffered a blow when Penn Air stopped serving in Portland, Oregon, in August 2017. The Alaska-based carrier served Redding for about a year before stopping the flights.
