Bradley Cooper could not help remembering his dark days by realizing "A star is born".
In the remake of Oscar, Cooper plays the role of Jackson Maine, a rocker struggling with alcoholism and drug addiction, while falling in love with his protégé Ally (Lady Gaga). The film also marks the beginnings of Cooper
In 2016, Cooper revealed in an interview with Barbara Walters that he had fought against drugs and alcohol.
It is this past that Cooper now says help to inform his work as Jackson.
"Whenever you try to tell the truth, you have to go to places and use things that have happened to you, or that you've read or experienced." Cooper says Variety at the premiere of the Toronto International Film Festival. "And it's part of the beauty to turn everything you've lived into a story. I find it very cathartic. I remember learning that in high school, our teacher said all the insecurities, all the dark things you can use and that's really the truth.
At the time of the interview with Walters, Cooper stated that he was sober after having used drugs and alcohol for 11 years.

As for his musical chops, Cooper learned to play the guitar for the film. And yes, it's his real voice that the public hears when he sings.
"Because she is so confident and encouraging, I felt very comfortable once there. It gave me the courage to go out. We went to Glastonbury and we went on stage in front of 80,000 people and Stagecoach. [Lukas Nelson’s] my dad was kind enough to let us come on his set, Willie Nelson. It was crazy, man. As a kid, you still dream of being a rock star, so pretending to be pretty cool.
If the public forgets that he is watching Cooper and Gaga on the big screen, the star of "Silver Linings Playbook" has achieved his goal. "I hope you will only see the characters, that is the goal. Since the opening, it was one of the key elements of structuring the film and its shooting. I really want to make sure that you forgot that it is me and that you forgot it right away, otherwise the story will not work.
