Three children, their mother and grandmother were found dead in a house in the Australian city of Perth after a man alerted police, detectives said Monday.
The children were 2-year-old twins and their 3-year-old sister, according to a police statement. The police did not say how the five died. A 20-year-old man alerted the police on Sunday morning.
"The man who is currently assisting the police is still in detention," a police statement said, adding that "no charges have been laid yet."
Homicide detectives and forensic police will continue to comb the address in the Bedford suburbs for evidence and clues about what happened.
"It will take a while and it could take several days," said Assistant Police Commissioner Paul Steel.
"It's a tragic thing when incidents like this happen, it sends a wave through the community of Western Australia," Steele said.
