Former member of the Church of Bishop LDS "undecided" following a disciplinary hearing

SALT LAKE CITY – The leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints met with Sam Young Sunday, a former bishop who protested and led a hunger strike against church policies to allow Bishop Youth LDS.

"I am ready to sacrifice my membership from the start for the true purpose of this movement," Young said Wednesday. "The real purpose of the disciplinary council will be to judge the institution."

Published on the Church's Mormon Newsroom, she explains what happens during the church's disciplinary council.

"The purpose of any council or discipline in the Church is to help the individual to obtain peace and hope through the Atonement of Christ." It should not be confused with punishment, "wrote the church in the explanation.

Protesters walking around the Temple Square area said they saw the disciplinary boards end in excommunication or loss of membership.

"Whatever happens, he will play and sing for him, for all the children, all the survivors," said Mindy Burton, who helped organize the event.

Cameron McDougle, who helped make the T-shirts worn at the protest, said they were told that no decision had been made at the Young Church hearing.

"They are only deliberating, and we do not have a clear timetable for deciding when they will make a decision," McDougle said. "At the moment, Sam is still a member and I'm in good standing."

The church has recently issued new guidelines for bishops interviewing children, including a "protection from misunderstanding" section, where "parents are encouraged to be in an adjacent room, foyer or room".
