1 dead and 4 wounded by bullet near Toomer's Corner, an inmate

AUBURN, Ala. – A shootout near Auburn University on Sunday morning killed one 20-year-old man from Tuskegee and wounded four others. One person was detained.

Auburn police, with the help of the US Marshal's Fugitive Task Force, arrested and charged a 17-year-old Opelika man with murder. The teenager has been detained in a residence in Auburn, authorities said. He was transported to Lee County Prison with a deposit of $ 150,000. Police reported that the case was still under investigation and that further charges were possible.

Authorities identify the victim as Evan Mikale Wilson. The Chief Coroner for Lee County confirms that Wilson was found dead at the scene after suffering several gunshot wounds. Police said his death was under investigation for homicide.

The gunman is still on the run as the Auburn police continue to investigate. No description is immediately available and officials say that there is no indication of an active threat, but the public is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

Authorities say that a 17-year-old man and a 19-year-old Opelika woman, as well as a 21-year-old South Carolina student from Auburn University , were injured and taken to an Opelika hospital.

A 16-year-old Opelika man was also taken to a hospital in Columbus, Georgia, with serious injuries.

At around 3 am, officials told students, residents, and visitors to avoid the Toomer's Corner area while they were investigating the shootings.

Authorities said they responded to the shooting just before 15:00. The Auburn police was still on site at 6:30 in the morning.

The incident occurred at the McDonald's restaurant located at 224 West Magnolia Ave. The restaurant is less than 800 meters from the intersection.

Auburn police say it's not a random shot.
