The flights were halted and a man was arrested Monday after he accelerated on an airport runway in Lyon, France, officials said.

The man rolled in the wrong direction on a road and crashed on a barrier at the small airport, officials said. The car then hit two glass doors of Terminal 1 of Saint Expuery to drive on the tarmac.

Video footage captured by a witness showed that the driver was driving through the airport before his vehicle exited the road, lifting dirt and debris.

As the police got closer, the man jumped out of the car and ran off on foot. Several police officers and emergency response vehicles pursued him until he was caught.

Local government press secretary Christelle Monteagudo told the Associated Press that officials had not yet determined the reason for the incident and that they did not exclude anything at this stage.

No injuries have been reported, according to the local.
