Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, will visit Sydney, Melbourne, Dubbo and Fraser Island during their tour of Australia next month.

Last night, Kensington Palace unveiled the details of the royal tour, which revolves around the Invictus Games, the international sports event for injured and sick veterans founded by Prince Harry and to be held this year in Sydney.

Their visit, as part of a tour of the four Pacific countries, will attract enthusiastic crowds eager to get a glimpse of the popular prince and his glamorous American wife, whose wedding in May drew several billion viewers.

The royal couple will be in Sydney on October 16 for one day and will then move on October 17 to Dubbo in rural New South Wales.

They will spend October 18 in Melbourne before returning to Sydney for the events of the Invictus Games from October 19 to 21. The Opening Ceremony of the Invictus Games will take place on the 20th.

On Monday, October 22, the royal couple will travel to Fraser Island, Queensland, where they will carry out a Queen's Canopy project to restore the rainforest in the Commonwealth.

They will then travel to Fiji and Tonga before returning to Sydney on October 26 and spending the 27th in Australia, where they will attend the closing ceremony of the Invictus Games in Sydney.

Prince Harry is a Commonwealth Youth Ambassador and the couple will likely visit community groups involved with youth, with a focus on employment, training and community leadership.

They are also likely to stimulate campaigns to help drought-stricken farmers and to examine wildlife conservation projects.

The 16-day tour is the couple's first major overseas tour and will give Australia international exposure, with hundreds of British photographers and journalists traveling to Australia to cover the event.

Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace have had royal assistants in Australia for a few weeks, and members of the public will have several opportunities to see the royal couple up close.

Kensington Palace said last night that the Australian and New Zealand governments had invited the couple to surrender. They had also decided to travel to Fiji and Tonga at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in the United Kingdom.

"The program in these four Commonwealth countries will focus on youth leadership, environmental and conservation efforts – including the dedication of several new Queen's Commonwealth Canopy projects – and the recovery and the rehabilitation of the military said last night.

The precise details of the royal apparitions and the events in which they will participate are not yet published.

The Palace said Prince Harry and Meghan will spend October 23-24 in Suva, Fiji, and travel on the 25th to Nadi in Fiji and then to Nuku'alofa in Tonga.

They will return to Sydney on the 26th and will be there on the 27th before traveling to Wellington, New Zealand, where they will undoubtedly meet New Zealand Premier Jacinda Ardern and her new baby, Neve Te Aroha.

October 28 will also be spent in Wellington, while the royal couple will travel to Abel Tasman National Park in New Zealand on the 29th before traveling to Auckland on the 30th.

They will visit their home after a last visit to Rotorua in New Zealand on October 31st.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said he was looking forward to welcoming Prince Harry and Meghan next month.

"Their visit will be an opportunity to promote the incredible achievements of Invictus athletes from around the world and to showcase Australian programs that promote youth leadership, environmental and conservation efforts," he said.
