ACCRA, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) – The remains of former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan arrived Monday night from Switzerland where he died.

The special robbery carrying his body landed at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in the company of his wife Nane Maria Annan, children and UN staff.

The coffin containing the remains of the late Nobel Peace Prize was received by a contingent of Ghanaian armed forces who quickly replaced the UN flag in which the coffin was draped with the national flag of Ghana.

Ghana's President, Nana Akufo-Addo, received the widow and her children, while the religious leaders gave a brief prayer ceremony while the military band played solemn airs in the background.

The body was then transferred to the Accra International Conference Center where it will remain for three days with a funeral arrangement developed by the government and the people of Ghana.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, a minister designated for the information, announced Monday that at least 20 heads of state will participate in the official funeral ceremony on Thursday, including Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
