Isaac is currently crossing the open tropical Atlantic Ocean but could bring heavy rains and devastating winds to parts of the Lesser Antilles later this week.
Isaac was a strong tropical storm Monday night, about 950 miles east of the Windward Islands.

Oriented westward by high pressure to the north, Isaac is expected to approach the Lesser Antilles on Thursday.
The intensity forecast of Isaac is uncertain because of its small size, but the storm is expected to strengthen earlier this week.
Later this week, wind shear is expected to increase, resulting in some weakening before the arrival of the system in the Caribbean.
Isaac should approach the Lesser Antilles Thursday in category 1 hurricane or maybe a strong tropical storm.
Rising waves are expected to approach the Windy Sides of the Lesser Antilles by Wednesday and Thursday. Tropical storm winds (39 mph or more) could arrive in Guadeloupe, Dominica, Martinique or the surrounding islands by Wednesday or Thursday morning.
Tropical storms or hurricanes may be needed as early as Tuesday.

Isaac will produce total rainfall of 2 to 4 inches with localized totals of up to 6 inches across the leeward islands this weekend.
Isaac could bring a boost of humidity to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, increasing shower and thunderstorm activity on Thursday.
