Pimpri-Chinchwad recorded six swine flu deaths on Monday, bringing the total number of deaths from the H1N1 disease to 20, health officials said.
Those who succumbed to swine flu Monday are three men and three women, all residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad.
According to Pimpri Chinchwad (PCMC) municipal health officials, who asked to remain anonymous, a 25-year-old Bhosari woman and a 45-year-old resident of Kalewadi died at DY Patil hospital.
At Sterling Hospital, the three male patients succumbed to the H1N1 flu, while the other patient died at Aditya Birla Hospital, civil authorities said.
Dr. Pradeep Awate, State Epidemiological Officer and Head of Infectious Diseases, said: "A few days ago, we held an urgent meeting with all the PCMC health officials where MP Amar Sable was also present. .
Awate said that the state health department had asked officials to check every death. "At the meeting, it was discussed that most deaths were due to comorbidities and, as a result, patients contracted the infection faster than those who were healthy and had a viral infection. Now we have asked officials to strengthen their clinical management and also to monitor all the clinical facilities in their area. It is important not to lose life to a manageable infection, "said Awate.
Among the preventive measures currently in place within the PCMC, the doctors have asked the health service to immediately prescribe tamiflu drugs to patients with symptoms.
The industrial city has experienced a high number of cases related to swine flu this year. While Pimpri-Chinchwad has observed 110 cases of H1N1 flu with 28 patients currently broken down, Pune has reported more than 66 cases so far, with no deaths.
On Monday, eight people were tested positive for the H1N1 virus from 20 samples taken from samples taken at the National Institute of Virology. With these eight new cases, the total number of people infected with the virus since January 2018 is 110. The total number of samples taken from samples taken so far is 257.
