A man was bitten by an alligator while playing golf on a Florida park Monday, authorities said.

Richard Peel, 35, was playing golf on record at Cliff Stephens Park in Clearwater when the incident occurred. He was bitten after trying to recover his record in a pond, said Clearwater Fire Rescue officials.

Derrick Moody, who lives near the park, told FOX 13 Tampa Bay that witnesses had locked their arms to pull Peel safely.

"I guess they ran and formed a ladder with each other and they were able to take it out," said Moody at the station.

Peel was taken to the hospital, but his injuries did not seem to be life-threatening, officials said.

A social media video shows rescuers tying the 11-foot crocodile and loading it onto a truck.

"The alligator was seen before it gets into the water, so we always recommend that people stay away from murky waters," FOX 13 told Florida's spokeswoman Wildlife Commission, Ashley Tyer.

A second smaller alligator was also removed from the pond as a precautionary measure.
