The Cardinals beat the pirates 8-7. I do not think I say too much when I call it an absolutely massive victory. The Brewers won, but Dodgers lost, which means the Cardinals are not gaining ground on the top joker, but they are distancing themselves by a team match that allows them to qualify for the second wildcard. They are 80-64 with 18 to play.
Adam Wainwright had it tonight. Well, that is to say, he had it for a round. Maybe 2. And you could say that he's beaten for a 3rd not-in-a-row. But the general conclusion is that Adam Wainwright, despite all that we all love him, is not the best answer to the rotation crisis of this team. His speed dropped precipitously, he missed too much in the middle of the plate and that was all he could do to give this team 5 innings. He showed the fight and the resilience we have achieved, but we have no right to expect it. It's not sufficient.
Meanwhile, the offense was terrible. Except for 2 sleeves. They were ranked 6 times in order tonight and scored 4 points in the other 2 sets required by this match. Matt Adams was the star of this game, launching a series of three heats HR in the eighth inning, but Paul DeJong was the hero. The Cardinal shortstop only got 1 shot on 4 AP, but it made it a two-run double that pulled the Cardinals back in one inning and then scored the draw. But the highlight of the game was his defensive game that won 2 games and ended on the 9th. He was stranded in the hole and gloved a bullet from Cervelli's bat, planted and shot that beat the pirate receiver by one hair to end the game.

1st round
Adam Wainwright looked like the former Adam Wainwright at the beginning of it, at least. Presenting a gas of 92 km / h previously unthinkable and a decisive ball game, he worked on a single 2-out to put the Pirates in a goalless round. First, he made Adam Frazier absolutely silly with a 3 step K, which culminated with this nostalgic ball game. He then asked Marte to take another turn and head to the SS, before Josh Bell shot a 3-2 quick inside the quarter when he moved to the two-out category. But Cervelli took a fastball in a few shots later and flew to CF. He has launched 17 sites.
The cardinals had all the assets to succeed against Trevor Williams, but fate did not matter. Carpenter struggled for a full account (because of course he did), but hit a tilt perfectly placed low and far, but in the zone. Martinez followed with another full account, but also hit the ball fast, but in the zone. Adams tried a different tact and attacked the first pitch that he saw, a back door cutter, and lined it in the other direction, but too close to third baseman Colin Moran, who dived and managed the final exit. The Cardinals allowed Williams to throw 15 shots
2nd round
Wainwright gave a singular kick again the 2nd, but this one turned out to be a little more important. He started the race hard enough, eliminating Dickerson on 3 shots and Harrison on a 6th shot. But then he left a cutter in this low and easy position to a southpaw Colin Moran threw on the bleachers of the RCF. Wainwright recovered to bring Mercer to make his way to SS on his 34th throw. 1-0 Pirates.
Williams put the cardinals in order again. Ozuna flew to RF on a 1-2 slider, and DeJong managed to chase a 2-2 fastball on the outside. Kolten Wong then crossed the RF line by throwing a lead inside the line, but found that it was a simple cut, with a distance of HR. He switched to an outside change for the final exit. Williams was 31 throws through 2.
3rd round
The wheels are out for the wagon manufacturer in the 3rd. Williams gave us all the indication that we should have needed Wainwright to lose his efficiency by launching a hard drive, leading Wong into RF. After Frazier flew to the RF corner, Starling Marte threw an HR on the dead CF, 418 feet away. But the pirates have not finished. Josh Bell caught a single against CF, and Cervelli snatched a single in the hole on the left side of the infield, which brought Maddux to a visit, and asked Tyson Ross to start warming up in the center. After the speech, Corey Dickerson snatched an RBI single from DeJong's head to extend the Pirates advance. The cardinals woke up in the 4th. MVP's candidate, Matt Carpenter, led the charge with a double that went over the RF wall, and Jose Martinez was followed in one way or another by a lead in his hands. Then, after Adams managed to chase a high-speed ball, Marcell Ozuna doubled a RBI single at LF, and Paul DeJong hit a quick shot from the first CFL ball to score a pair. The rally continued, Kolten Wong beating a single floor on a SS soler, and Harrison Bader put things in place with a sacred fly to RCF. The Williams count was inflated to 64. 4-4 tie.
5th round
Wainwright, still throwing for some reason, placed the heart of the Pirates team in a bid to reward his teammates for giving the game a second life. He forced Marte to get rid of SS, with the help of a beautiful charging game from DeJong. Then, he withdrew Bell for the first time in 3 tries with a lead at 2B, and finally put Cervelli in withdrawal. He had up to 81 shots and his evening was over.
Williams also bounced back. Although hitter-striker Greg Garcia doubled his lead in the middle, he pushed Carpenter to LF, Martinez to 3B, and Adams to look at hit number 3. His throwing count was only at 76, but his participation in that match was nevertheless finished.
6th round
Chasen Shreve relieved and deserved no respite. The left-handed beat Corey Dickerson in full before retiring on the LF track, which should have indicated what would happen later. Josh Harrison followed with CF at CF death, the second explosion of the Pirates game. Shreve stayed in the game to remove the left-handed Moran, and he finished.
Dominic Leone relieved Shreve and is better off. Jordy Mercer greeted him with a single against LF, Kevin Kramer followed with a BB at 4 and Adam Frazier won a simple RBI against CF. He finally got the knockout he needed when he eliminated Marte on 3 lengths, a batter too late. 6-4 Pirates.
Kyle Crick released Williams and put the Cardinals in check. He brought Ozuna to 3B, DeJong to SS, and Wong to CF. Another round 1-2-3.
7th round
Lefty Tyler Webb held the Pirates in place with a 1-2-3 double. He fell behind Bell 3-0 at the start, but he struggled against 3-2 and pulled him out at 2B. Then he hit Cervelli with 4 shots and forced Dickerson to come back to 2B to finish the inning.
Richard Rodriguez relieved Crick, and also put the Cardinals in order. He hit Bader with a fast 3-2, pushed Kelly to 2B and eliminated Wisdom with another fastball.
8th round
John Brebbia relieved Webb and was almost as effective. He eliminated Harrison with 3 shots, the latter being a fast high ball. Then, after allowing Moran to become single against the LF, he pushed Mercer to the ground in a 6-4-3 double play.
Like lightning, the cardinals seized their opportunity and hit again in the eighth. Once again, Matt Carpenter led the charge arguably doing the 2 things he did best: he proved himself and took a step forward against the new reliever Edgar Santana. Jose Martinez pushed him to 3B with a single to RCF. Adolis Garcia rushed, signaling that the cardinals were considering running – Matt Adams had other plans. The bucking southpaw worked 2-1 and absolutely abused a fast high ball, launching a surprise shot on the RF seats, giving the Cardinals the advantage and eliminating Santana from the match.
Dovydas Neverauskas, whose jokes I no longer have the right to call, relieved Santana, but the Cardinal's offensive machine was already on the move and he was embarrassing. Marcell Ozuna started the race with a simple single at CF. He then moved to 2B on the DeJong field to move to 3B. He went to 3B on a ball past Cervelli, which was probably a launcher foul. Whatever the reason, Cervelli threw himself into a fairly simple fastball and Ozuna made 3B. This was huge because, after Wong went on a walk, Harrison Bader raised a foul pop in RF's short (where would be the paddock if it was AT & T Park.) Frazier chose to Catch, and Ozuna was able to score quite easily. He should have let him down. 8-6 Cardinals.
9th round
Carlos Martinez closed this one. He hit Jordan Luplow with a 2-seamstress to get things started, but then gave up a simple / mistake / depend on who you play, where Frazier went back to the center, Martinez grabbed a piece, DeJong l? eventually reached, but shot Carpenter too short, who was not able to capture. Martinez bounced back to beat Marte by a 3-2 change, but then gave LF a long, long flying ball by the scorching Josh Bell. Fortunately, the ball hit the wall instead of flying, which caused a race, but kept the Cardinal's head.
Francisco Cervelli then intervened and threw a fast first-step ball towards the hole on the left side of the infield. DeJong went, stretched, caught, planted, and fired a redemptive blow at Carpenter at 1B, juuuuuuust in time to beat Cervelli. The replay could not be turned around. Cardinals win 8-7.

- Adam's K of Dickerson was the 1,600 of his career. He got a prolonged ovation from the local crowd for his feat.
- Adam did not hatch 87 mph in the 4th inning.
- Kolten Wong caught a bug in his eye during his single in the fourth inning.
- Matt Carpenter now has 40 doubles.
The Cardinals are looking to win the series tomorrow, sending Miles Mikolas to deal with Joe Musgrove. The game starts at 7:15 AM CST and can be viewed on FSMW.
