Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has become the last notable Republican to recognize that Senator Ted Cruz will face a tough reelection in November in Texas.
On Tuesday, McConnell was asked about Texas after not mentioning it among the "dead" races that he's looking at this year. These are elections in Arizona, Nevada, Tennessee, Montana, North Dakota, Missouri, Indiana, West Virginia and Florida.
In six of these races, the Democrats in office defend seats in the states that Trump won in 2016. The president has won most of these states by an overwhelming majority. The retired Republicans hold two of the nine seats identified by McConnell, while another GOP holder occupies another.
"All too close to call and each of them like a knife are fighting in an alley, just a fight, in each of these places," McConnell said.
"I hope that when the smoke clears, we will still have a majority in the Senate," in particular, continue to pass Trump's appointments to the positions of judges and executive branches, the Senate's Republican added. He extolled the success of the GOP-controlled Senate by upholding the judges, which will allow Trump and McConnell to influence the country's politics for years after they leave.
During the 115th Congress in progress, the Senate confirmed 68 judges. That includes 26 judges of the court of appeal, a record for this point in a presidency and conservative judge Neil Gorsuch.
The GOP aims to confirm Trump's second highest court candidate, Brett Kavanaugh, before the mid-term exams.
