ST. PAUL, Minn. – A man was forced to amputate his leg and became blind temporarily after contracting a fatal infection with ingrown hairs.

Doctors believe that Mark Nagel, 53, contracted necrotizing fasciitis after entering his body in 2017 through an incarnated hair, Daily mail reports. The bacteria was able to grow in a leg space where Nagel had pulled a muscle.

Nagel, of St. Paul, Minnesota, took 45 pounds in her leg and is temporarily blind in the two weeks following the infection.

"The infection had basically absorbed all the hydration of my body. I became so dehydrated that I became blind and was about to lose consciousness. said Nagel.

After being transported to the hospital, Nagel underwent several surgeries to remove the sick flesh. Despite the chances that a disease has a survival rate of 27%, doctors have been forced to amputate Nagel's left leg.

Nagel was equipped with a prosthetic leg and had to relearn how to walk again. He and his family also moved into a one-storey house.

Although life has changed, Nagel remains positive, knowing that things could have been worse.

"I can only manage with one leg because it is much better than the alternative, I am alive."
